Synthetic the kind that comes 3 for $5. if u use human u will pay like $35 a pack and human hair is too soft, the braids will come loose in a week, go synthetic, u can even buy hair in two colors and combine them!

Probably for braids, synthetic just don't leave them in too long because that will also damage your hair and don't have really small braids.
