Grass cutting.. Does it grow back quicker if you cut it often (like human hair)?

Just an argument really between two friends! We have a lawn that grows so fast (its almost a foot high after cutting it about a week ago!) I say this is because we cut it too often

the more attention you give a lawn, the happier it will be, and the faster it will grow. The science behind it is when you cut it, you increase the amount of sun an individual patch or surface of grass gets. Good on ya!

only if its emo.

I've never heard of cutting bringing on growth; usually it just makes the grass dry out and die when it's cut too often. Is it a special grass seed? I know Zoisha grass grows very slowly and turns brown in the cold weather, but comes back when it gets warm again.

You probably had a lot of rain; grass tends to grow after a rainstorm or good watering. I've noticed that the landscapers come out in force after a rainstorm.

if your grass is almost a foot high in a week then something other than weekly cutting is the cause. you may be over watering the grass, or using a fertilizer that promotes growth, or any number of factors. that is really a lot of growth in a week. but it is not from cutting to often, if you cut it less frequently it sounds like you would need a industrial strength mower to cut through 2 feet of grass.

No.....it gross more as you water and fertilize. Without those two ingredients, it would not grow all....no matter how many times you mow it.

Turf grass growth is a function of water, available nutrients and favorable climate. May is usually near perfect for turf grass growth. The temps are warm but not too hot and there is a lot of moisture. My guess is that you both fertilized a litlle heavily this spring.

Wait a few weeks when it's hot and dry .. you won't have to cut near as much.

it has nothing to do with how often you cut it.
