Human head hair needs to be cut or shaved regularly. Why does hair below the neck grow to a fixed le

Actually the same question can be asked of hair over our entire bodies. The reason: different hair folicles produce different lengths of hair. The follicles on your head actually produce hair that can reach lengths of up to 6 feet. The follicles on your arm for example only produce hairs of up to half an inch. Same as the hair follicles on your neck. They are short because new pieces of hair are being produced. The hair on your head is one very long piece. You just keep cutting it before it pushes completely out.

Eventually another hair on your arm pushed the old one out and it falls out. The follicle then takes a month or so break and then pushes the new hair out.

Human head hair needs to be cut or shaved regularly. Why does hair below the neck grow to a fixed length?

That's not necessarily true. I have long locs and there is no limit to just how long my hair will grow.
